week 6

On these two websites i found, they were both schools located in Asia that use blogs in the classroom. One was in Thailand and the other in central Asia. Both were very interesting sites to look at because of all the information that was along the same lines of what we are doing in the Unites States.
One school used blogs to help with German and English that they were teaching the children. They had different tips, websites to help with questions or just to put up what they think. While the other sites was open to the parents of the students to post their feelings so the teachers know.

week 9

This was very interesting to learn that wikipedia isn't all that it is cracked up to be. It is considered one of the most reliable websites for information, but however it seems that anybody can go in there and change things so that they reflect things they want to say. It is also interesting to know all this because I use this site all the time because i thought that it was so reliable. However I feel that some of the information that is posted is reliable depending on what it is you are looking for.
I also thought that it was very interesting that they have come up with a way to check and see who has gone in and changed the information, and what the information has been changed to. This gives people the power to know who changed it and how far from the truth they changed the information. I feel that this is very inportant.

week 8

I chose to look at the February post. I thought that it was interesting that he wanted to know if there was another way to see if someone got the right answer in math by asking them why they think its right and how they got that answer. I feel that it should be put in affect because sometimes people don't always do something the "technincal" way. But do it different ways and end up with the same answer.
I feel that it is important because I am the same way and sometimes do things backwards and get thing right. I feel that as long as you have the concept and know how to explain how they got the answer then it should be counted as correct.

week 7

I think that what he has to say is very correct. I agree that teachers should be held responsible for having technology knowledge when entering the classroom. As the years pass we are no longer doing things the way they were done in 1950 with pen and paper for everything. Now we are using technology in many ways to make things more and more easy.
I also feel that people who say they have technology know how but actually don't should highly go and seek a program that will teach them how to use it properly. There is not going to be a sudden turn around to where we just stop using it altogether. So as teachers, staff or inspectors we should futher ourselves and learn more about technology, so that we are able to help our students.

week 2

Alex is a program that is offered across the state of Alabama and has many tools that are offered to help with the lessons, yourself, the classroom and many other things. I found this website to very easy to use and very helpful. There were many things here that I thought that I could use in my classroom once I start teaching.
Some things that I really like were that they offered lesson plans for many subjects and all grades. So if you were having trouble finishing a lesson plan you could go and look at some of these lessons and get ideas. Also that it has a place just for teachers that offers them different tools and and programs can help futher themselves in many was.It also shows different things that you can use if you classroom is hooked up to the classrooms connected across the state.

My EDM 310 Blog Assignments are now Completed.

Hey classmates. I hope that I will be able to have class with some of ya'll in the future and hope that you all do well in this class. I hope that everyone has a great and safe holiday break. Love Rachel

Final Blog

In this class there were something that I did learn and found interesting.

1. I didn't know how to use access until this class. It was a lot easier to use than what I imagined and use for tons of stuff that can be used in the classroom.

2. I also learnedhowto use publisher to create all types of flyers, posters, and calenders. This is definately a program that I will use now and when I start teaching. This makes it easier to make something just the way that you want for the classroom rather than having to go out and buy something.

3.Blogs were something I had heard about but never knew how to make one or even use one. But I'm glad that I now know how to use it.

week 12 itunes U

When I first looked at this webpage, I thought that it was really interesting that itunes has paired with many universities to help with learning. I think that it is great that this site can provide the slides that are offered in the classroom in audio as the teacher went over them in class or the different pictures that may have went with a lecture. I feel that all of these things are only futhering the learning that one student can do.
I also think that it is very conveintant that these are available to be placed on your ipod, like they said on the site you can listen to the material for a class while walking to class or working out. It would be and is very difficult to walk or workout with a large text book. Not to mention you are able to hook it up to a itravel, for trips so you can hear it while you are driving.
I'm not sure if South is yet connected with this program, but I think that it would only benefit the school. Students would be able to get lessons that the teacher had and hear the discussion that happened in the classroom that day if they were absent. They would also have many tools that could benefit the students. Maybe also students would be able to post their notes from the class so that other students would be able to have access to them, like a filing cabinet of sorts.

week 11

Ipods are being used more and more in the classroom nowadays that what they were originally made for-music. I think that it is great that we can take something whose main purpose is one thing and then go and adapt it to be used as a teaching and learning tool. I had a co-worker who would use his ipod to record his lectures for his pharmacy classes. He said that it made studying so much easier since he could actually hear everything that was said in class, rather then just have to cover the notes that were taken or what was in the book; because there could be material that you aren't sure about.
I found while looking on the web, that now ipods are being used in classrooms from K-12. They are being used in all different ways to help the students learn all different material, such as a foreign language, music lessons and different podcast that are relative to what is being taught. At Duke University each incoming freshman and faculty was given and ipod and invited to learn and explore how it could be used in the acedemic realm and student life at the university. Now Duke offers ipods to the students who are taking classes in which the professor will use it as tool in the classroom. Some examples are using case studies, audio samples and photos for the class being offered. I wish that there were some classes that were like that at South because I feel that it would be another window of learning that could be offered to students.

week 10

I think that photography could be useful in the classroom in many different ways. first of all students could use photography in different classes to help with what is being taught at the given moment. Like students could go out to the neightborhood and take pictures of different animals that make up a food chain where they live. Also it can teach children how to effectively use a camera and how to edit the pictures on the computer.
I really think that Dr. Christie has a good idea by using photography in the classroom. It may help those students who learn visually in many different ways. It also gives the children knowledge of the technology that is happening in their world. All of these things can easily shape children and the way they learn and their enthusiasm about learning.

Web Accessibility and Adaptive Technology

this was a very good speaker and interesting
Steve Sullivan came and talked to our class about his disability. He also talked to us about the different programs that are out there to help people with disabilities, such as Magic and Jaws. He also brought in some different tools that are available to people such as the Braille reader and the light up magnifier.

In the first website this one teacher talks about how she used a blog in her english class. She gave the children a certain book to read and then go and post a blog about what they thought, and then to comment on some of their students blogs. This was a really good site because this also gave the students knowledge of how to use the computer and internet to post blogs. It also gives the students an opportunity to interact with the students outside of the classroom.
The second article it talks how blogs are used in the science class room in the Middle and High school classrooms. In this website and blogs, they share different types of resources for the students or teachers to use. Have different videos and links that go along with the lessons in the class. It also allows students to put post and comments about the homework assignments also.

week 4 video post

I really liked this video, it had a lot of facts on there that I knew nothing about. It was interesting to see that ALL of Indian college graduates speak English. Also that out of India and China, we had the fewest college graduates. I found it startling that America wasn't as up to speed as they should be. I liked the fact that there are people who are trying to make our students more 21st century ready.
This to me is important because with the way that everything is moving more toward technology based assignments, it is important that they know and understand what they are doing. I can remember when I was in grade school and only used a computer to play games on, we never used it to learn in the classroom or do homework. This is great because there is so much useful information that is available to them through the Internet. I also love the face that there is a program that is set up to help the children who may never have the access to a computer or the information that it provides.

week 3 blog

Access is a program that stands for Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators and Students Statewide. It is a program that was started to help provide opportunities and options for Alabama public high schools students, so that they can be engaged in courses as Advanced Placement(AP), electives and other general courses. This is to provide the student the chance to take a class that may not be offered at the school that they attend. It also offers interactive video conferencing, web based courses, and summer school courses. All of these were set in place to help high school students who may not have these easily accessible to them normally.
It was also set up to help the Educators themself. This programs offers ideas on new and exciting ways to motivate the students in the classroom. Also to expand their teaching knowledge and lastly share their teaching efforts among students statewide. They also learn how to use and intergrate new technology into the classroom and teaching. This program is available for students from K-12.
I feel that this is a great program that was set up, it can effect so many students and help further them in their learning. It is great that this is out there because many students may not have some of the electives and other courses offered at their school, but through tis program they are able to take part and expand their wealth of knowledge.

At South, I am a Kappa Delta and have to say that I love it so much. I love Auburn football.....Weagle Weagle War Damn Eagle! I also love going to South baseball games and hope that our football team proves to be good. In my free time I enjoy going fishing with either my dad or cousin and friends. I also love to go to beach and soak up the sun or spend time out on the boat, anytime that I can be around water is when I am the happiest. I also like to be lazy and just sit back and watch food network, travel channel and the home and garden network, yes I know this makes me sound like an old woman; but its better than saying that I spend my nights watching lifetime movies. I also like to spend alot of time with my family, most of the time we will have a Sunday dinner with some of my extened family.
Just some random facts that you might want to know about me. I was born on July 11, 1987 which makes me a cancer. I have one brother named Hunter, parents named Bo and Debra, a cat and a dog. I went to Little Flower Catholic School and then McGill-Toolen Catholic High and graduated in 05. So I'm taking my time through college.
